Dr. Loida Reyes, MD, DFAPA is an outstanding clinician, educator, and leader in the field of psychiatry in Buffalo, New York. She completed her medical education and clinical internship at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Reyes entered the Armed Forces of the Philippines as a Probationary 2nd Lieutenant. She fulfilled assignments in the provinces of Maguindanao, Cotabato and Laguna. She thereafter joined the Philippine National Police and was given a pediatric residency scholarship at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, the oldest hospital in the Philippines. She completed her diplomate in Pediatrics and served as a Ward Officer in the Pediatrics Department at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) at Camp Crame. She also worked as active medical staff at the Perpetual Help Medical Centers at Las Piñas and San Juan de Dios, Pasay City.
Dr. Reyes migrated to the USA in 1998 to join her family. She did volunteer research at the Roswell Cancer Institute Hospital. She worked as an admissions coordinator and clinical case manager at the Lincoln Park Subacute Rehabilitation Center in New Jersey, where she helped open a behavioral unit. This led to a growing interest in psychiatry and she pursued Psychiatry Residency Training in an underserved area in Tennessee from 2005 to 2009. Dr. Reyes was appointed as the Chief Resident of her program at the Meharry Medical College on her third year of training after demonstrating strong leadership qualities as a member of the Educational Committee, Selection Committee and Graduate Medical Education Committee from 2007 to 2008. She also became the Resident Chair at the Tennessee Association of International Physicians that year.
After completing residency training in Tennessee, Dr. Reyes joined the Buffalo Psychiatric Center in 2009. She was assigned to an underserved area at the southern tier of Fredonia, New York. She currently works at the Lancaster Clinic.
Dr. Reyes is the current Treasurer of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center Medical Staff Organization. She has also been a consultant at the Monsignor Carr Institute, a part of Catholic Charities in Buffalo, New York, since 2013. She is a Preceptor at the University of Cincinnati Nurse Practitioner Program. She has been active in her local Filipino American Association and has helped with the cultural needs of Filipinos in Buffalo. She has also been an active member of the Western New York American Psychiatric Association (APA) Branch since 2009 and is an APA Distinguished Fellow.
